Why does XP Pro: Prob. and Home not?

After using Windows XP Home, I realized that I actually needed more since I am in networking a lot, and I am sord of a power user. So I decided to buy Windows XP Professional and now im using it and it works great for me but it always gives me what I am going to mesion which really annoyes me. For example, I have a webcam fro Creative, and to use it I need to install the driver that comes with it. Well, with XP Home this worked flawlessly, but with XP Pro when installing the driver it stopped and said: "This driver is not appropiate for Windows XP, if you install this driver it will maybe cause Windows to get unstable" Well, not exactly does words but you get my point. Why does this happen? This also happens with the new Nvidia Driver fro their site. I download it, and it says it works and it is designed for XP, but when installing it it stoppes and giver me the same message error. Why does this happen with XP Pro only and not Home? In Windows Update site the same drievr is there and it installes succesfully without any problems! I mean its so iritating since I get scared of installing the drivers since it maybe will cause instability. I am just wondering why this happens.

From XP help file:
Designed for Microsoft Windows XP LogoHardware and software products displaying the Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo have been tested for compatibility with Microsoft Windows operating systems through use of Microsoft-provided testing procedures. For the best performance, Microsoft recommends using hardware products that display the Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo on the external packaging and on the device itself.

Software for hardware products with the Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo has a digital signature from Microsoft, indicating that the product was tested for compatibility with Windows and has not been altered since testing. For the latest updates, including security fixes, service packs, new Help files, and device drivers, see Windows Update in Help and Support Center. You may also want to contact the hardware vendor directly and ask for a device driver that has met the Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo requirements. For more information, visit the Microsoft Windows Logo Program (go to http://www.microsoft.com/ and search for "Windows logo program") on the Microsoft Web site.

Warning

Microsoft strongly recommends you only use device drivers with the Designed for Microsoft Windows XP logo. Installing device drivers that have not been digitally-signed by Microsoft may disable the system, allow viruses onto your computer, or otherwise impair the correct operation of your computer either immediately or in the future.
You can disable the prompt so you no longer see the message when you install unsigned drivers.

If you are getting your drivers from the manufacturers, and not a third party they will be fine if they say that they are for XP. Hell I'm using some Win. 2000 drivers in XP without problems.

Thats the problem! It says its designed for XP but when installing it on Windows XP Professional it gives me this message while in Windows XP Home it doesnt. Its not a Windows 200 driver, it is a XP driver designed for XP and it gives me this, why I dont know, it shouldnt.

I got the same thing, Dan. NVIDIA's latest drivers for the FX3200 are dated for August. I had these loaded on my system before I upgraded from Win 98SE to XP Pro last week. At Windows Update, after scanning my system, reccommended an older driver (which I had used before) from May. What's with that? Despite the XP Pro warning, I stuck with the newer driver, and no problems to date.

Yes, exaclty. Strange indeed. And from Windows Update no problem at all, and its the same Nvidia Video Card Driver! I also one day decided to ignore Windows XP's problem (before the driver was located in Windows Update) and today I have no problem at all, but I am still scared since it shouldnt give that error message at all! Same thing has happened with two drivers so far, and I am still thinking there are many people that may have experiences this "problem" or I want to call it an "error".

This happened again recently to me. I have an IBM Optical mouse and I decided to install its driver, its sais its for 2000 and XP but in the installation same error shows up saying this driver is not digitally signed to work with XP etc. Its just irritating and somewhat scary since it sais it works fine with XP, its even designed for XP but still gives this lame screen. Is it a problem with my XP?

Right click on My Computer, Properties, click the Hardware Tab, click Driver Signing, click the Ignore option and be sure there is a check mark where it says Make this action the system default.

yes, just because it is the same basic OS..that DOESNT mean it is setup the same.

For one thing there is the matter of service packs and updates...then there is the matter of the many different setup options and properties...such as different ways to handle driver signing etc.

If the machines are setup the same way, I cant really see a driver working on one but not the other...so I have to think it is a driver signing option or something similar.

Yes, I have all the patches and latest service packs in both of them and they are both configured equal, and still this only happens in Professional edition. Thanks Imperion for the advice, but that wouldnt be a good idea since it would accept the drivers that would totally wreck XP and are not designed for it. Although it could be used if you know which drivers you cant install and it wont show the annoying errors. Maybe in a was Professional is a bit more secure than Home by blocking and not allowing you to install a driver that it founds to be unapropriate. Although its strange since the drivers it is rejecting are for XP and designed for it but still errors. I have checked all the Microsoft sites trying to find a solution for this "bug" but nothing found. Strange indeed, Veru strange
