Is Winbond sensor accurate?

I built a machine about a month or two ago and the board has a Winbond W83697HF sensor. The system is running a xp2400+ (at stock speed) and a Thermaltake Volcano7 (non-plus). There are also two fans (one in and one out). The temps that I've been getting seem to be a little low considering it's an AMD and was wondering how accurate the sensors really are. Attached is an image of what AIDA32 says my temps are. I've tried MBM and speedfan and they all give the same numbers.

Are these temps accurate?

TIA!

The Winbond chip only reports the data that is being sent to it. The real question is whether the thermocouple is reading the temperature accurately.

Typically, you're reading the temperature measured by a probe located under the CPU. (you can see it if you look in the center of the socket before you install the CPU. Variations in the exact location of the temp probe, particularly how far it is from the bottom surface of the CPU make a significant difference in how "accurate" the temperature is.

I never put too much faith in the actual number that the temp probe reports. Instead, I establish a baseline operating temp for a given CPU/HSF/MB combo. Then I watch for changes that might indicate a developing problem.

Thanks ragtop!

So I guess I should just be worried when the CPU goes over 40C? Does this seem like an appropriate value for the temperature of an XP2400+?
