Kids Best MATX mobo for P4 2.4C o/c? Your IMOs please!

Your opinions please - I'm stuck with a micro-ATX case (space reasons) and want to fit a new motherborad to overclock a P4 2.4C 800fsb cpu. Whats the best about? I love to tweak, so lots of frequency and voltage adjust would be good. Has anyone out there got one? - what results can you get? All opinions gratefully recieved!

I posted the same question a week back with no reponse

I am build the exact same m/c, P4 2.4C Overclocked, in a MATX config. I was only looking at Springdale 865 solutions.

I did some extensive research. I will sum it up for everybody's benifit.

The following are the cards that came in my rador for 800fsb P4 MATX.

1) Asus P4P800-VM : A good card with zero OC capabilites

2) Abit IS-10 Series : No User documentation anywhere in the web and even though it states that it supports SoftBIOS in their Webpage, after calling up their tech support and talking to someguy for 1 hr learnt that this card also does not support OC or the Smart Fan speed control is not present.

3) DFI PS35-BL / Gigabyte GA-8IG1000MK :
Both support OCing to good extent. But does not have smart fan speed control feature.

4) Biostar P4TSV : This board has both good OCing capabilities + also smart FAN speed control. (U have to look into the Userdoc , BIOS setting to even find this feature !)

I ending up ordering the Biostar board.

Will followup on how it goes when the board arrives.

Id use this---its the baddest wamma-jamma P4 mb available now:

http://www.abit-usa.com/products/mb/...es=1&model=130

Might have to unfortunately rethink your case choice...

saroneo - thanks for your post - glad to hear I'm not the only one with this problem! gotta agree that Springdale is the way to go, the non-intel chipsets don't seem to measure up. I've been researching too:
Agree the ASUS P4P800-VM looks good but doesn't seem to offer any o/c options.
I didn't find out about the Abit but you've found no o/c.
The Gigabyte 8ig1000Mk or 8ipe1000MK seems to have clock options but no voltage adjust (from what I can see in the manual - only auto?)
I've also identified other possible mobos:
MSI 865GM2-S, LS, or ILS (where S=SATA, L=LAN, I=Firewire)
AOpen MX4SGI-L, or N (4 types) - overclockable to 248 fsb but not sure about voltage options?
QDI P4-I865GMA6L - no info yet
I'm downloading manuals for these I'll post what I find but manuals don't always tell the while story!
Looking forward to hear what you can achieve with the Biostar - good luck!

thekingofpain - yeah it won't fit in my matx case - and I haven't room for a bigger one. By the time I finished altering my shelves and buying a bigger box I couldn't afford a decent board to put in it! If it would fit I'd have the IC7-Max3 though. Thanks for your input.

jdc - Which motherboard did you decide to use and why?
saroneo - How is the Biostar P4TSV working?

I'm planning to build a uATX system as well, and have considered a P4 2.4C/865-based motherboard, among others. I, too, stumbled across the P4TSV and 8IG1000MK in my research. I noticed that the 8IG1000MK appears to have a PCI frequency lock. Does the P4TSV have a PCI lock?

UPDATE: Eventually gave up on finding a MATX board that had full o/c features.

Have now purchased an Antec Sonata case which is a fairly compact ATX case, its less than 2" taller than my old MATX so I can just squeeze it in.

I bought an ABIT AI7 mobo which has bios controls for everything, every frequency, voltage, and timing you could think of, and fan control too. I got a P4 2.6C and some Geil PC4000 to put in it.

Playing through a s/h ti4200 graphics card for now - hot graphics and TFT to follow next year when I've got more money!
