Are mobos backwards compatable?

........in plain terms.......will a 400FSB motherboard run a 533FSB CPU comfortably without crashing the darn thing?

The cpu should run "underclocked" at 200 FSB in that situation.

thanks for the replies.......would this noticably decrease any performance? I have an extra Celey 2.4 533fsb that I want to put in a PC chips 920lmr board that has the 400fsb.

In general, ths is a bad idea. I would wait until you can buy a motherboard that supports the processor.

I'm not aware of the 533mhz FSB Celerons. Are you sure it's not 400mhz FSB?
