Hard drive size limit?

Hey all

I have a Gateway 700 that I bought in July 2002. It came with an 80 gig HD and I am thinking about adding a second hard drive to get more storage. If I'm not mistaken, there is a limit to the amount of HD space that the computer/mobo will accept. How do I find out what that limit is (without calling Gateway and paying for tech support)? I'd like to add another 80 or 100 gig. I am running WinXP Pro.

Thanks

I belive you should be fine. The limit is not in the total GB ot the drives, it is in 1 drive and I think its somewhere around 250-300GB. Now physically, you can only have 4 devices across 2 IDE channels, so thats your cd drive, your first hard drive, something else and something else.

So, since I have 1 CD burner, 1 DVD-ROM, and 1 hard drive, I can add one more hard drive of any size (within reason of course), and it will all be OK? I guess I misunderstood the whole size-limit thing.

Will adding another hard drive slow down the performance of the PC in any way?

Thanks for your help.

YES

From my experience, not that one can notice. But theoretically, more devices use more electricity and running the devices may grab a few extra cycles from the cpu
