Directx 7 or 8 or 8.1 for GTS-V?

I have a geforce GTS-V card 32mb and I think it is DirectX 7 compatible. However, I play games like Splinter Cell which is DirectX 8.1. I recently tried to run 3D Mark 2001SE and I got an error saying that I needed to install DirectX 8.1 in order for it to run.

My question is, if I install DirectX is it compatible with my card? Also, which version do I install as I think there is DirectX 8.1, 8.1a, 8.1b, 8.2 and now 9? I assume it would be 8.1b or 8.2 but am not sure.

Any thoughts?

You should install the latest Direct X 9b your card is only a dx7 hardware card, but games still need 9 for other features.
