According to the specifications, it supports up to the "Athlon XP 3000+(333 MHZ FSB)(Model 10)(Barton)" after you update to at least the 1016 BIOS version.
I found the information on the
CPU Support page
-> Query by Motherboard
-> SocketA(462)
-> A7V333
Most people only see a difference when the CPU speed is increased by 300mhz or more.
As mentioned above, you may need to update your BIOS. You can download the latest BIOS from
the A7V333 BIOS download page. Be sure to extract it from the ZIP before you do anything with it.
Next, you'll need to create a boot disk...
Because you have Windows XP, creating a boot disk is slightly different than mentioned on the below page. To create a boot disk in Windows XP, do the following:
(1) Insert a floppy (that can be erased)
(2) Open 'My Computer'
(3) Right-Click your Floppy Drive (usually A

, and choose "Format..."
(4) In the dialog box, choose "Create an MS-DOS startup disk"
(5) Click [start] and the floppy will be formatted and the startup disk created
From that point, you will need to copy the AFLASH.EXE program to the disk, and the BIOS file you downloaded/extracted earlier. Then, continue with the "Updating BIOS Procedures" on the page:
How to Manage and Update your Motherboard's BIOS
