Help needed

I'm not the brightest bulb on the lamp and because of this I need some help.Only two things really. How do you join a network in SuSe Linux? How comw I can see my network but can't do a damn thing with it.I have 4 computers.2 running Windows XP pro,1 running Windows Xp Home and of course the SuSe Linux box.All four are joined by a Netgear Wireless router.Windows does not see the Linux box.I see the other three puters in SuSe but can't access anything in them.I really want the printer to be accessable the most.I have Samba configed and it says it sees the printer. But,all print jobs go to a file or somewhere else.Is there any book that simplifies Linux for really dim people.I read the manuels that came with SuSe but It does not tell you how to do what I want to do.At least in simple terms.I relise that this is a much harder OS to operate and all. But,If I can figure out this network thing I'd be a little more comfortable with it.I don't mind command lines and will use them. But,I don't know which ones to use.I can see this will take a couple years of non-stop use to get to know it.Happy,Happy,Joy,joy has gone and pissed and frustrated has entered.I think I need to get away from this machine for a while.Hell,I can't even get my dumb e-mail settings to work right.I entered the same exact settings I use for Outlook and nothing happens.Oh well, sorry for the long post.Just a link to a very self explainatory site will be most helpful.

Best place to go is Samba's homepage. There are alot of settings to be configured.

Ok, I will be glad to try and help but just a few pointers first (honestly not intended in a critical way)

1) For the love of all things good consider reformating your post, one long paragraph that covers a wide variety of topics isn't encouraging people to help you.

2) Ask specific questions where possible (I know this is not allways the case). For example... "I am using Evolution version blah to access my pop3 accounts but it chokes with error blah when I try and retrieve my mail" rather than "my email is broken how do I fix it".

3) How do the machines "not see" each other? Can you ping between the systems? Is it just file sharing not working or do you lack any network connectivity?

4) What model is the printer? How is it shared? Can you query it? How are you sending test prints?

Regards

ed

5) Don't give tech threads pointless names, something like "mail is rejected from remote hosts with distro blah" is more likely to attract the attention of someone who can help than "HELP!!!" or "How do I?" or even "OMG Linux no worky!!!!!".

It really wasn't intended as a bashing, I honestly want you to get your box working as you want. Sorry if it came over that way, I just thought it was some advice that would assist you get the best help available.

Fill in some of the blanks and I am sure someone can help get your system working properly ASAP.

Regards

ed

No need to apologize SpookyEddy.I reread it and realized how badly I wrote it.I must mention I failed writing in school. Most of the time I use Word to write my thoughts out on here so I don't look so inept. It's hard to explain a problem though when I don't have a clue as to what I'm talking about. If that makes any since.I really hate reading. But,I think in this case it's going to be an absolute necessity to learn this OS.I'm just not a real technical guy.I can put together any computer and trouble shoot. But,when it comes to explaining.Forget it.Lets just say.If you ever need direction to anyplace, never ask me.I'll get you lost real fast. But,you are right I will ask more specific questions from now on and give as detailed info as possible. Thanks again.
