Refillable ink cartridges
ran out of ink real fast on my 40 dollar HP 3520 so i figured id try a refilling kit from pacificink.com (thanks to whoever left that link, good/fast shipping)
everythings great and i made sure the cartridges were totally full but yet in the HP software it still shows up as pretty much empty even after a few cleanings and what not. since it doesnt ask me if this is a new cartridge im installing do you think its a one time sensor thing?(cant be) i can call HP but i was curious if anyone had the same thing happen.

Well, this is why they not recommend doin' this and if you call HP they will say you screwed it up, the guarantee is over, and you'll have to handle the prob. yourself. After doin' this one time your guarantee is over, same as using not original cartidges. Sorry that it happen to you.. One question, even if it sais its empty do the printouts come out okay?

Some of the newer printers have chips on the cartridges that prevent refilling.

But those are the Epson printers, that have small chips, even in the cartridges. But HP have currently not opted for this so that shouldnt be the case, just to make sure

oh yeah, the print fine is like i was saying. i dont really care much about voiding the warranty considering the prices of HP cartridges are outlandish anyhow and the printer was 40 bucks. but the thing is, its the same cartridge. if i took a brand new HP cartridge i think i would get the same effect wouldnt you say? | you dont think id actually say i used a refill kit do you? i would just say i used a new HP cartridge and the level stayed the same, thats about it. no biggie, since it works fine. just wont be easy to tell the amount inside.

Yes, maybe its a sensor that is not working, but again these things are not recommended, although I must say I agree with you about the prices, just ridiculous. I would say if the printer is printing fine, then I would worry, if you see a lack of quality, ink ends fast, etc then I would consider others to help you. As I mensioned calling HP will not help you at all. Hope you have good luck, by the way which printer is it? the 2k Serie?

I had a friend doing the same as you did, he told HP he bought a new original cartridge, they told him to send the unworking cartridge. After a few days they posted back to him tellin that the ink was not original, and they totally iliminated automatically the guarantee. So its not that simple as you may think. If you really need the guarantee I wouldnt recommend doin this, or else if you dont mind having minor prob. it can save you a few bucks.

I can verify that newer HP inks have have expiration chips that prevent refilling.
If your forced to buy another cartdrige, look for an "HP compatible" cartridge from another maker....it may allow refilling.
... this is where marketing begins to ruin a good product. |

I'm not sure if it is applicable or not, but I found a set of instructions on how to Reset HP Ink Level Indicator.
Some HP cartridges don't actually sense how much ink is left, but rather how many pages have been printed. (And from that, it assumes you MUST be low on ink.)
If you look around for your printer model, you can probably find the 'secret button combination' that will print out a diagnostics page for you, including the total number of pages printed, and info regarding the ink cartridges 'in memory'.

EDIT:
Furthermore, here are two pages from HP that might give some insight:
- HP 78 Inkjet Print Cartridge - Resolving the Error ...
- HP Inkjet Cartridges - Ink Level Accuracy ...
