serial ata?

whats a serial ata? i was looking at a new mobo and it says it doesnt have a serial ata and i have no idea what that is. does it have something to do with the hard drive or ide ports cuz i think i remember when i got my new hatd drive it saying something about a serial but im not sure.

serial ata is the new transfer method. SATA cables work a lot faster than PATA ones(150mb vs.133). ATM, SATA drives arent worth except in the 10,000 rpm flavor. So it doesnt really matter if your mobo has SATA or not, it'll be next year before the technology is firmly in place and we have decent prices. In the mean time, prices on PATA drives are getting lower all the time.
