will my comp run BF1942??
Hello,
I only just built this comp earlier this week, so I don't really know its hardware limitations, and strong/weak points.
Anyway, I was thinking of buying BF1942 and I was wondering how smooth my comp could run it? It looks pretty good from the screenshots, is it all just hype or is it really that good?? I was thinking of downloading it first to test it (i wouldnt keep it longer than the 24hr legal limit, i am very anti-warez) b4 buying it but I dont want to waste 200mb+ on a limited broadband account so im not sure...
specs:
Athlon 2600+ Thoroughbred B
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro
MSI Excalibur Radeon 9600 non-pro 128MB AGP 8x
512MB DDR400 Kingsmax RAM
7200rpm 8mb Seagate 80GB HDD
52x32x52 cd-r/rw
400W PSU
Win2k Pro
I got 8,836 in 3dMark 2001SE, is this good or bad for my setup? i know i only got 1,416 or something on my old comp (PIII 667/GF2 MX100/200, 320MB SDRAM)
Any help on improving the performance would be greatly appreciated, though i dont want to do any dangerous overclocking, nothing that requires any more fans etc (i have the standard CPU and m/b fan, plus a 120mm extraction fan on the case...)
Well, sorry for so much info, but again my main q is, will i be able to run this game at a playable rate/detail level? how will it fair at high/the highest settings? anyone with a similar setup have any opinions/suggestions/comments?
thanks

Your PC is fine for BF:1942.
Actually I have ran the game on much slower PC's.
That 3D Mark 01 score looks a bit low, I have a Radeon 9000 Pro in a P4 2.4A that scores about 8011.

Yep my computer is much worse than yours, and runs BF fine, when it decides to.

Just make sure you download and install all the patches for the game.

thanks, i think i may pick it up. darthgary - is your comp overclocked at all? the p4 is a bit faster than an athlon 2600+ i think...
im about to re-run 3dmark 2001se, loop it 3 times. then i will compare on the board. i think they class the 9600 and 9600pro in the same category though, makes it hard to compare. i have all the latest drivers installed.

okay, just did a fresh shut down/restart, ran it 3 times and i got 8511 3dmarks
this score is the second lowest (with similar settings) on the futuremark website!
the only thing is, futuremark do (as i suspected) classify both the 9600pro and the non-pro under "Radeon 9600 series"
the highest (also with an athlon xp 2600+, 512mb ram etc) was 12,973. i mean, i knew the 9600 pro would be faster, but 4,500 3dmarks faster when mine is only 8,511 in the first place? i didnt think it would be that much! can someone help me to speed it up? would downloading the windows service-packs help?

that is my compare URL, i am only getting 5.4 MTriangles/s on the High polygon count (8 lights) setting. and i can notice the framerate being bad on that when it runs.
if anyone could assist me with getting to the 10,000 mark it would be greatly appreciated!

Are you overclocking the video card? You could try that. Go to http://rage3d.com/r3dtweak/
Just be careful and dont overclock too quickly.
