Will Microsoft email patches?

I have been getting emails form Microsoft that say

"MS Customer

this is the latest version of security update, the "September 2003, Cumulative Patch" update which resolves all known security vulnerabilities affecting MS Internet Explorer, MS Outlook and MS Outlook Express as well as three newly discovered vulnerabilities. Install now to help protect your computer from these vulnerabilities, the most serious of which could allow an attacker to run code on your system. This update includes the functionality of all previously released patches. "

When I went to down load the file my computer said that " The publisher cannot be determined due to the problems below:

Authenticode signature not found."

Would Microsoft not have a signature?

Ok now I keep getting viruses and another email from microsoft that comes with no msg. just says abort in the subject line and has a file attached to download. I think I am under attack.

Microsoft DOES NOT email patches. This is the newest worm. If you open it, it will not only infect your computer, but it will also access your email address book, and mail the same virus to everyone in it.

question about swen

i keep getting these swen type emails...i've looked through the registry and used a couple "fixswen" utilities...i've never found any evidence that its on my computer...but i keep getting these emails...is that an indication of infection or no?

I was getting those emails (MS) too but my RVS changed the attachments into text files. The text files quoted, "dangerous codes" and deleted the attachments. It was provided by my local provider but I have my AVG scan the emails also. If you have a virus scanning program see if the email scan is turned on and update the data files. The newsgroups have a virus being posted throughout the groups that say MS.
