One Wireless one Wired

I have a wireless laptop internet connection all hooked up though my Linksys router. My desktop is also hooked through the same router but it is wired. I have had a problem for over a month getting the two to communicate with eachother. The Laptop is running XP Pro and the Home system XP Home. I have run the network wizard on them numerous times, as of right now i can see the connection on both computers but i get a notification when I try to connect that the path was not found. and that the //yournamehere not accessable. any suggestions, solutions, anything at all? please help me...

Might be a permissions issue. Make sure BOTH systems are sharing a drive or folder. Then, verify the network is working by pinging both ways.

Then try setting up a user on the XP Pro system with the same name and password as the XP Home system. This sometimes helps.

The other thing to try would be ensuring both systems are in the same workgroup and that simple file sharing is disable (or enabled) for both.

Helmig helps with some advice here.

Hope this helps.

Cheers
Mick

Whenever I have a problem with computers communicating with each other, it's usually because I the workgroup names for each computer are different. Double-check to see if they're in the same workgroup.

Thanks guys, I have checked the user name deal and that's not a problem, I am using the same username on both systems. I see that they are connected to the same workgroup, they both show up in the window when I look. I don't know how to ping the computers, at least I don't think I know. This has been bothering me for a long time, both computers run the internet fine, but this access permissions and path not found is driving me nuts. How do I set access permissions? I never set any when i did the network. Thanks for the quick responses! You guys are a big help already.

Sounds like the are connected OK, so pinging would just be a formality, really. Just opne a run box form the start menu and type ping IPaddress where IP address is the IP address of the other PC. If you are not sure of the IP address, open a command prompt and type ipconfig and it will be listed.

Oh, and they both need to have IP's in the same range (eg 192.168.0.x) - the first three sets of numbers should be identical.

i still think it may be a simple file sharing issue - make sure both have it either on or off as per the link I gave above.

Cheers

XP home does not have simple filesharing box in the folder view section. As of right now i still am getting the same message! This is totally frustrating. I have mapped a network drive to try that, and the other computer does not show it? I appreciate all the help, are there any more suggestions? BTW i cant get the ipconfig box to stay open long enough to read it.
thanks once again
