Changing fan direction?

i have aluminum fans.. i bought em for looks(of course) and they need to blow out.. only prob is the ugly side has to be shown to do it.. how can i reverse the direction of the fan?

You would need to rewire the fan so that the leads are switched around, or find a way to plug it in backwards. I think. Right electro-gurus (always worked for me with battery fans).

If it's a molex fan, it's not too hard since the wires are thicker. The two pin motherboard header fans would be a bit trickier. But basically you're just cutting the leads off, stripping the wires, and reattaching them backwards (red to yellow and yellow to red). Make sense?

Whir is correct, except that it would be yellow to black and black to yellow. Red is actually +5VDC. I think you'd smoke something if you hooked up the yellow AND the red!

On all my two pin header fans, it's red and yellow. I couldn't remember what the molex ones were. I hope I didn't cause something to get fried.

Well, usually the two pin fans have a red and black wire. Three pin fans add a yellow wire, which is for rpm. I don't know if I've seen a two pin fan with yellow and red wires, but anything's possible! I don't think you caused any problems, Whir.

I wedged my case in between the desk and the wall so I can't pull the sides off to take a look either. Heh.

I have a polarity switcher dohicky and I hooked a PC fan up to it, normal polarity turned the fan fine, reverse (which usually works on mortors and such) made the fan not spin.
