IS AN ALIENWARE A GOOD GAMING COMPUTER???

i am thinking of buying an alienware area 51 extreme as soon as nvidia nv40 comes out. Some reviews I read said the Alienware is overpriced but I checked Falcon Northwest and Dell and Alienware was cheaper and with better componets. I would appreciate if someone replied back and tell me their thoughts on and alienware.

well if you know a bit on putting comps together you can buy the parts they use and put it together yourself and save like $400
only thing you might not be able to find are the new cases..

Alienware is very well known for gaming machines. Thats their whole schtick.. and they do it well

They are indeed overpriced though.
As kantlivelong stated you could build them yourself if you desire. One downfall of that though is YOU are the support desk to call.. with alienware you get their customer support desk.

It really boils down to is if you want to take the time to deal with it and care enough to build your own.

Bottom line, yes alienware is a very good gaming machine typically.

First off Alienware makes great machines. They are excellent gaming machines with the right options as well.

That being said you do overpay quite a bit, but you get what you pay for.
1) You get a sweet looking computer.
2) You get EXCELLENT customer support. Can't say enough about this. A friend of mine toasted his mobo installing new RAM. They sent him a new one eventhough it was his fault.

I used to have an alienware and they make good computers, unlike jkrohns friend though, their customer support was terrible when I tried to contact them for support. If you read their reveiws on resellerratings you will see many complaints against alienware. In my opinion, for what you pay for their customer service and support is very lacking. The parts they use aren't really any different than dell, ibuypower, abs and so forth. If you can build your own, you will find I believe better technical support on this site than alienware's. Check out voodoopc also, expensive like alienware but from what I hear, better customer support. Good luck in your search.

i was actually going to post a thread about this too...

I agree that they are expensive but like someone said if you are going to buy a system with a 3.2 ghz processor and get over a gig of RAM then you'll save money compared to if you got a Dell or a Gateway gaming machine. if you want an average gaming system then alienware is overpriced but if you want the l33test thing you can get alienware will save you money.

if you're looking at the Area 51 laptops then you won't find a better gaming laptop on the planet.

my girlfriend wants me to get an alienware...prolly just so she can use it....
