After much debate and consideration, I've decided to go with ZoneAlarm, but I have a problem. I installed XP Pro's firewall, and the setup seemed pretty straight forward, just click the protect option under the Advanced tab. Aside from setting up my local home network options, I was never allowed to set any other options, nor is there any indication the firewall is even running. That bothers me.
When I decided to uninstall the firewall, I followed the same procedures, but now the Advanced tab doesn't appear, and I'm stuck from there. I've gone over the help file, and the procedures are simple, and exactly like they were for installing the firewall, but I never get the window with the Advanced tab. Totally frustrating. If anyone can tell me how to capture the screens, I'll be glad to show everyone what I mean.
If I go ahead and install ZoneAlarm, will it automatically uninstall the XP firewall? Probably not, and I'm more than certain that it will tell me to uninstall the XP firewall first.
This is the first problem, other than getting my legacy Microtek scanner to work (which I did), that I've had with XP Pro. I just can't get to where I need to be to uninstall this. Even my cat could navigate the steps, but they just don't check out
