Sony VAIO question.

I have a Sony VAIO PCG-N505VE which had Windows 98SE on it. Recently it decided that files were missing and would not boot windows anymore. This laptop has no internal drives but supposed external drives, my question is, if I purchase one of these external drives, will the laptop boot from a bootable cd? Another question for you guys, Do I have to buy the sony external cd rom drive which is really really expensive or can I use other, if so please tell me where I can get them. Finally one more question, how would one get into the bios for these things, I hit delete 16 million times and nothing, just keeps on trying to boot. Sorry for the novel, thanks a lot.

Try pushing F2 instead of delete. Most BIOSes are either Del or F2.

No idea about the rest, although I assume if you hook a CD-ROM up to it, it would be able to boot from it. I had a friend with the same sort of VAIO.

Good luck!

Hi, did you check the manual if your laptop has a Recovery Partition so it can resintall the OS? If your laptop did not come with a restore cd/os cd, its a good chance that they did that.... just a suggestion

Yeah, thanks, I figured out how to get into the bios, turns out it was F2 adn not Del, I also didn't get the manual for it, I pulled out its hard drive and was wondering if I could hook that up to my PC or is that bad?

You can hook it up to your PC using an adapter

here's an example (picture attached)

BTW it looks like the CDROM drive you need is cheaper on ebay..here's one going for $10.50!

...and it will boot from CDROM.

Whoa thanks for the link to that HDD adapter, I think I am gonna buy that, and that CD Rom is not gonna last for $10.50 they usually end up at $100-$150 on ebay.
