Voltages spikes

Hello everyone,

lately, I have been recording extreme voltages spikes. The monitor software that came along with my asus motherboard would at times, pop up a warning saying that I am below threshold. Can someone enlighten me about the plausible causes of such event.

12volt probe would drop down to the 3 volts region
5.5 volt drops to 3
3.3 volt decreases as well
A Vcore signal which under normal circumstances is in 1.8 volt will drop to 0.88volt

I would also like to know where are these standard measurements usually taken on the motherboard. (i.e across which chip or components). I can't really trace these events to any particular actions taken.

Thanks a bunch,

Tony
-I've attached a word doc with a screen capture of the monitoring software
-Could this be a case of not having enough power off the supply box?

Personally, I would much rather suspect the ASUS sensing probes and software. If the voltage was truly nosediving that far..the system would shut down before you could bat an eye. The cpu voltage only needs to flicker under its required operating voltage for it to quit..instantly, and I believe I can assure you if Vcore went to .88 volt, your machine would be on its way to a shut down..

There is only one true way to measure such as what you are doing, and that is by lab type (calibrated) instruments. The devices the motherboard manufacturers but to place on out motherboards are much less than perfect...most being in the 20% tolerance range and above.
