Was Linux responsible for the death of my PC?

Alright, last year I installed Slackware 8.1 alongside Windows XP as a dual boot. Everything went great(even got dual monitors to work). Then 10 weeks later my video card fried, and messed up my hard drive. Poof, no PC for a month or two.

After I got my PC back, I initially went to install Linux again, then my roommate stopped me.

"Dude, don't do it. What did you do right before your PC died? Yeah, installed Linux. Stay away from it."

At first I didn't see a connection, since it HAD been 10 weeks since I installed the stuff. But I am a paranoid mother, so I thought I would ask around. Is there ANY chance at ALL that installing Slackware 8.1 could have put strain on my vid card, or in any way contributed to the death of my PC? I'm not talking "It's not probable", I mean ANY chance at all that it might have messed things up(or at least added to the problems). I would rather have no Linux at all than have my PC die again like that. It was horrible.

Thanks!

I've never heard of anyone having killed their computer by putting Linux on it...

No, no and no.

Linux did not cause your computer to die.

I haven't laughed so much in a LONG time..

Your friend is not correct. An OS cannot wreck your hardware.

Did you overclock anything by chance??

loling here too. if 10 weeks went by before you had any problems then even if linux could have (and I'm agreeing that it couldn't have) killed your pc, in that 10 weeks time lots of other things could have happened that did your pc in. lol or it could have just d-i-e-d!!!

See, that's what I freaking thought! But he was INCREDIBLY adamant about it, and I tend to trust him when it comes to PC stuff, since he was the one that introduced me to Slack in the first place. Damn, I knew I was getting worried over nothing.

And I KNOW it is stupid, but forgive me. Losing my PC last year sucked big time. It was terrible, especially being at school and not being able to a) do my homework on it or b) Play any freaking games for the rest of the year!

This weekend, Slack is being reinstalled. Thanks for indulging my idiocy.

EDIT: Oh, and I hadn't overclocked anything. The last thing I did before it died was installed Slack.

Yes Linux caused the death of your PC. . . . . . It caused your computer to die and go to heaven that is. J/K

Your hardware failure was not related in any way to the fact that you were running Linux.
