Unusual Rise In CPU Temp

Heya all, the last week i have noticed an unusual rise in my CPU temp, well i think that it is unusual anyway.

Computer Specs:
AMD Athlon XP 1800+
512MB PC2700 RAM
Geforce 4 MX440 64 MB
Seagate 80GIG HDD
Windows XP Pro

My usual CPU temps are usually around 44C at idle. The last week at idle they have been sitting at 52C. They dont usually go that high even at full load. I have a AMD fan on it that came with my cousins 2500+ and i have one case fan at the back that is sucking air out. I don't understand why i all of a sudden had this rise in temp? Any ideas? Any ways you's know that i can get it back down again or what may have caused it? Also the heater temp at the moment is set to 19C. Also it's probably not that hot in my room.

Thanks
PastranA

It could be the fan off the newer 13micron 2500+ tb Athlon. Did you change the fan you had on there that ran it at 44C? If so, I think you've found your problem. Because the CPU is newer and faster doesn't mean that it runs hotter than the older 1800+.

Sorry i should have mentioned that, the fan and heatsink are the ones that it has always had. Maybe there is something wrong with them?

EDIT: Sorry misread the second post, I have not as yet gave either of them a clean, should i give that a go? If so what is the best and safest way to clean them?

"Canned air", like "Dust-Off". Make sure you get all the grunge out from between the fins on the HS, and also clean off the fan blades.

Are the fan rpms same as always? Any unusual fan noise? Finally, are yopur ambient (room temperatures) higher than they have been?

I'd download Speedfan to monitor the RPMs on your fan. It might be slowing or dying. The only things that could cause this really are dirt in the case and fans losing rpms.

Have a great week!

Yes my RPM's are the same as usual i am quite sure. I use a program to tell the temp of my CPU called MBProbe. It says that my CPU fan speed is 4017. I had a go at taking the cpu fan off but i am not really sure how to, I dont really wanna go busting anything, so I will get my cousin to do that for me. but I did give the fan a blow out, and now the temp is sitting at 42C at idle so I think that the dirty fan was the prob, but we will see as i have only recentley turned my computer on. Also my case fan apparentley speeds up and slows down according to the CPU temp, so I am not sure what speed that spins at, any way that I can find out? Also is there anyway that i can just make it spin its fastest and not adjust to the CPU temp?

Thanks for the help guys.
