Dynamic Vs Condenser Microphone

What is the difference? I have no shunt on my audigy 2 and my mic doesn't work nor does my guitar. Is the because I need to change it to dynamic.

Yes. There's not jumper though? That's crummy. Mine had one.

Condensor mikes are powered and automatically shelf or adjust sound levels so as not to send 'spikes' to the recorder/mixer. At least I think that's how they work. In live audio, you mostly see them for cymbals on drum sets, and vocal applications in the studio. Most pros still use normal dynamic mics for performing.

This might be a bit delicate for ya, but try taking some speaker wire apart (if you've got some) and wrap a single wire (the little tiny strands) around the two posts that are supposed to be jumpered to switch it to dynamic. Or you might be able to purchase jumpers at Radio Shack for all I know.

I have a jumper but I meant it just wasn't on the drive. So a dynamic microphone good include an electric guitar and nonself powered microphones. I can finally talk to people now and cant wait to record me playing my guitar. All the stands in my way is homework .

For dynamic mics you need to turn the soundcard's mic preamp on. For most soundcards you do this by checking a box under the advanced menu of the microphone volume control. On my soundcard it's called "microphone boost". It may also be called "20dB mic boost"
