Strange Happenings Win 98

OK This is a 2 month clean install.A couple of weeks ago I started having problems with a link not opening until I double click it.Nothing I do changing mouse properties,internet options fix this problem.I can live with this.
Today I am copying some files from CD to the HDD,and after the files are copied,the CD window closes,When I open it displays nothing,like the CD is empty.It will only show what is on the CD after a reboot.
Also NERO sometimes will freeze the machine solid.\
All these problem have just started,most today.
Any ideas.

I tried to run Defrag for about an hour. Turned off screensavers,and all, nad it never did start
It didn't freeze,just didn't do anything.
Also the modem is acting wierd to.It'll be connected,but if I right click to disconnect it stays connected.And sometimes it'll say connected and just not do anything.And only a reboot will fix it too.

I never had one like this.

I'm about to downgrade to Winderz ME

May be blaster worm? Try running system file checker.
