Dual channel memory question????
I want to run in dual channel mode on a Gigabyte GA-8IK1100, Intel 875P chipset motherboard. It has 6 memory slots two groups of three with the first slot in both groups colored orange. My question is this: Would it be better to get two 512MB PC3200 (DDR400) sticks and put them in the first slot of each group or would it be better to get 4 sticks of 256MB PC3200? Or does it really matter???? Thanks!
Here is a link to the board to take a look: http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=13-128-183 |

I really don't think there will be much of a difference, if any, between using two 512Mb or four 256Mb sticks of memory.
Remember though, once you use either size module, in order to continue using dual channel when adding more ram, it must be the same size as the memory already installed. |

I wouldn't know if there's a difference between using 4 256 sticks or two 512s, but I'd go with two 512s. That way, I have the option of adding in more memory at a later time. Although, 1 gig memory is quite a lot... wish I could afford it....

On one hand I would go for 2 x 512, as that leaves for more memory in the end, but on the other hand I would go for 4 x 256, as when 1 stick fails, you'll only loose 256Mb instead of 512Mb

BUT if you get a brand like crucial or kingston you will get that replaced under its lifetime warranty.

true, but would one really need 3Gb's of PC3200?? can't think of anything that requires that amount of ram.

Ultima, I see you're from Nijmegen. My uncle was in Eindhoven during WWII. It was one of the few experiences he would tell me about the war. He really loved the people there, and went back to visit in 1990, about 2 years before he died.
