Kids opening port on firewall question

Port 4000 is used by icq as well as command and conquer.

I do not have icq or command and conquer installed. If I open port 4000 on my firewall, will I still get attacked by hackers because its such a well known port? Or do I have to have icq and/or command anc conquer installed in order to get attacked?

what kind of firewall are you running? hardware or software?

they safe if you dont need the port open to close it. if you are using software/hardware firewall you can disable and enable as needed.

well, i think when people scan port 4000 they are targeting computer using ICQ.

Like i say, if you dont have it installed why even open yourself up?

what other application runs on port 4000 that you dont need?

im most cases you wont have really any issue with leaving the port open. but i suggest you run a software firewall and allow the application premission to access the internet that you need.
