Can MB support a 160GB HD?
Hi folks! I've got an MSI KT3 Ultra2 motherboard running Win2k and I'd like to buy a 160GB hard drive which is currently on sale. However, I've heard something about there being a size limit of 120GB with some machines. I did a search to try to identify whether such a limitation existed with regard to my MB, but came up with nothing.
Can anyone help?
Regards and thanks,
Dana

Go to MSI's web site and download the manual for your mobo (if you don't have it, sometimes it's on cd). It will be in the manual, or in the specs listed on MSI's web page.

For some reason, I couldn't connect to MSI's web page. When I searched for reviews that included the specs, it didn't list how large a HD the board could support.
Thanks for the suggestion on the manual. I'm currently in the military and deployed, but I'll try to access it from here.
Thanks,
Dana

Well, I downloaded the manual (6.7 meg), it does not give that spec. I'd say it should work ok, but I did not see anything about it.

Amd:
Thanks for your help on this! I tried to access the MSI site and it wouldn't connect. Maybe a security issue since I'm on a military network. (Boy do I miss my cable modem!)
Anyway, I'm going to go ahead and buy the drive. Worst comes to worst I only get 137 GB out of it!
Thanks again,
Dana

Even if that is the case the drive should come with a program that makes it compatible. Too tired to think of the actual terms (maybe EZBios?)

Thats a pretty new motherboard so it should be ok..besides, most drives that size come with a seperate pci controller card to allow for the larger drives.
