Outdoors GEFORCE FX5900-Growling-Literally

I have a Geforce Fx5900 128Mb 8x

When i play games with high end graphics, i can hear the sound of the graphics card through the PC speakers, actually hearing the spinning of the fan. Is there a way of stopping or minimising this? E.g - Raven Shield, when i throw a smoke genade, when the smoke rises and i come close to it the sound gets stronger, when i get furhter away the sound goes away- what is this stupid problem, can anyone help me get rid of it.

PLEEAASSE!!

First I thought you had a bad fan (common), but you say you hear it through the speakers.

Are you sure its the graphics card fan? You could test it by disconnecting the fan briefly (less than 30 sec's) to see if the noise goes away.

If it is the fan you could try moving your sound card away from the graphics card, or connect the fan directly to the PSU (you will need an adapter, or solder a new connector to the fan so that you can connect it to the PSU)

Next, this may be an interupt problem. Check the device manager for any conflicts. Again, moving the sound card maybe the solution.

I have Onboard sound card.

The fan is part of the card and the card is Brand New.

Ill try checking for interrupts but what else could it be?

If i am far away enough from my computer i can't hear it but when i normally sit close to my copter i can hear it.

My next though would be that perhaps your PSU is overloaded.

BTW, all the video fans that I have seen are connected to the card with a small connector. You just pull on it gently and it will come off. Don't pull the fan it's self

I strongly dislike onboard sound for reasons like this. You may need to disable it and buy an add in card.

a reason it is also makin the sound is because it is harder to generate smoke than it is regular graphics. As you get more and more stuff being generated on the screen, the card itself has to work harder to keep up with the data, which in turn makes the gpu a lot hotter! It could be that the fan itself is that loud at those times, and in that case get a resistor (like a zalman fan mate) to make it a lil quieter.... dont know if that answered your question.... thought id just give ya some input

Also, the 5900 has( i think) an adjustable fan. So when temps go up, it spins faster. That would explain it.

Overstressed power supplies screw up the voltage regulation. And that in turn makes any load change audible in the delicate analog sound output circuitry.

I have a case of that here too - ever since I did a CPU upgrade, I can hear every move I make, even me typing every single letter of this text.
