Ok, Im stumped

Well, what else is new. Anyway, Ive been working on a PC for awhile, and I finally recieved a CPU for it and I still cant get it to boot. The motherboard is a Soyo SY-5EHM v1.0 with an AMD K6-300, and 64mb ram. Ive searched the web and found a pdf manual for it after about an hour or 2 of doing everything I can to get it goin. Ive set the jumpers/DIP switches accordingly, but still no luck. Could I have recieved a dead motherboard from comp-recycle?

do you at least get power? if your jumpers are right, and you get power with no beeps no video, no post, you probably have a dead board or cpu. usually its the board. to be sure pull out the ram. boot without it and if you hear no long beeps then its safe to say the board is dead in most cases. pull out any cards as well so you just have the minimal boot requirements. sometimes ive seen a bad modem/nic, holding back the system.

Yeah, I got power, and the CPU fan that was connected to the pins for it on the board was running. I pulled everything out but a known good stick of ram, the video card (AGP, but tried a PCI), and of course the CPU. I could have fried the CPU, but I dont have any way of checking it right now since I dont have any other socket 7 boards (at least one that works). This problem occoured to me with another PC which (ironically) had the same mobo, but I cant remember what the heck I did to get it going again (aside from a different CPU).

edit: I hooked the speaker up (D'OH) and didnt get any beeps, even without the ram. So I guess its toast... I just hope the CPU is still good.

I ran that same board years ago.
IMO that board is/was a POS.
The only mobo that I ever owned that I had any real issues with.
I lost the mouse one day out of the blue and could never get it to work again.
After to many hours of screwing with it I put it in the "when I have time" closet, right next to the other comps then end up getting stripped for parts.
