Kids 1GB memory not working in ASUS A7V133

Hello

First, thanks for reading.

Second, here's the prob.

ASUS A7V133 VIA KT133 Set w/AMD 800 Tbird

2 512mb AUG 64x4 PC133 SDRAM 3-3V TSOP ATI33V64M4PC133-7B

Windows ME

I have recently attempted to install 1GB of memory.

The system will boot if set to,

A) 100mhz (ALL 1GB is recognized)
B) 133mhz (ONLY 512mb and ONLY if one stick is in at a time)

I have tested both sticks all slots. The memory is good.

I had considered that maybe it was the 64x4 memory but according to every source I've checked this Mobo chipset DOES support it.

What happens is this:

With 512 installed set to PC133 it boots up just fine!
With 1GB installed it boots and beeps, gets to the memory counter and hangs.

I have also edited my system.ini files to limit VCACHE to 512mb(524288).

Any thoughts?

Thank you

The mobo/chipset probably doesn't support a full gig of RAM. Am I wrong?

the A7V133 supports 1.5GB PC133. maybe a bios update is needed.

I thougt about that, and there is a BIOS update that states "improved dimm stability"

I suppose I am uneasy about messing with the BIOS

as long as there is no power outage during the flash, it's safe.

I've never done it before.

I did however make a boot disk with AFLASH on it according to ASUS's instructions and their own flash utility didn't work.

It gave me an error.

I was fairly sure it was the right one. I will double check.

Before you do much more hardware tweaking, You might consider that it's your Windows ME.

It wasn't designed to support more than 512 mb of ram, and could be causing the problems. Even if you get it to work, don't think you will notice much of a performance increase.

Just my .02
