DDR500.......

Does running DDR500 in a DDR400 slot cause any problems?

The reason I ask is that I upgraded my computer to a Soyo PI875 Dragon 2 Platinum Edition board with a P4 3.0 and 1024meg of DDR500(2*512) Corsair TwinX.

I had quickly developed( within 1 hour) severe graphics problems. For example, tears in the images, missing parts of images..... This would happen when I played( or tried) a game or ran 3DMark03...

It wasn't long before I lost all my graphics completely. I had a warranty on the Radeon 9700 Pro so I returned it and got a replacement 9800 Pro. I had graphics again, but they were tearing and missing pieces. Everything was updated too. Drivers, BIOS, etc. I chalked it up to the mobo, so I returned it in favor of an MSI Neo2 with the 865 chipset. Same problems! I also have some sporadic program crashes on start-up and when running 3DMark 03, the system just rebooted during the test.

The only things that are the same between the Soyo and MSI setups are the Western Digital 120 gig hard drive, liquid cooled case, the processor and the RAM. Also the Windows XP home.

I suspect the processor, but want to make sure the DDR500 is not the issue, being in a DDR400 setup. I even updated the BIOS in the MSI. The processor was running between 83 and 89 degrees F. Absolutely nothing was overclocked. The screen resolution is 1024x768 @32 bit. The monitor is only a few months old.

Any ideas?

I got it sorted out. The new Radeon 9800 Pro was no good....... Go figure, two bad Radeons in a matter of days.
