cd burning program question

I have a friend 600+ miles away that has an old hp pavilion (9780c if I recall) and it has a 8x hp burner in it. He lost everything and is looking for a good cd burning prog to use on it.

Here's the question:

I have two copies of Nero express here that I've never installed b/c I use the regular version. Would one of them work with his, or does it have to be a specific prog, like one that came with it or whatever. It had an old version of Adaptec Ez cd creator back in the day, but that's long since gone.

It will work fine on your friend's system. Nero will work on any 8X burner. The software is not hardware specific.

Coo, thanks guys. The main reason I asked is that it seems like some is hardware specific. I remember it had to match a certain type of oem drive or something. But, good news, thanks for the helps!

If the copies of Nero that you have are OEM copies that came with a new burner, chances are they will only work with the burner they came with, (or a very similar one). I found that out the hard way when I had to replace a burner that went bad. It won't hurt to try - but don't be surprised if it doesn't work.
