FINALLY, picked her up yesterday...

Gday, I picked up my new machine yesterday, heres the specs:

Athlon 2600+ Thoroughbred
Gigabyte GA-7N400 Pro
512MB Kingsmax DDR400 (1 stick)
MIS/ATI Excalibur Radeon 9600 non-pro
Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200rpm 8mb
LiteOn 52x32x52
Panasonic 1.44mb
Omni 400W PSU/ATX Case

What do u think? i got it all in seperate boxes (built myself) for $1,000 australian exactly, plus optical mouse and kb

Finally got it working to my liking, works alright

i got approx 8,800 on 3dmark 2001SE, is this normal or high/low? its running default settings at the moment, no overclocking (my mobo fan doesnt work, getting a new one tomorrow, safe to run for now. is 28 degrees C (i think thats alright?)

my CPU is running under normal load at 42C is that ok?

Does anyone know of any (safe!) optimization techniques i could use to get it running nice? i mean, its fast enough (upgrade from PIII 667, 320mb sdram, geforce2 mx100/200)

is the 9600 non-pro a good card for the price? i wanted a 9600 pro but didnt have the money, there was only the ti4200 in the same price range (both cards are AGP 8x, 128MB)

went for the 9600 as it has full dx9 support. any thoughts?

Looks like a honey of a system. Is the processora KV3D or a KV3C?

Does the processor run @ 2133 MHZ (KV3C), or 2083 MHZ (KV3D).

If is is running at 1600 or 1250, the system is set at fail safe defaults (100mhz FSB).

Loading "Optimized defaults, or Performance defaults" in the setup will increase the speeds to the rated speed.

yeah but if i went asus i would have had to settle for a 9200pro. and according to toms hardware, the gigabyte got higher scores in the benchmark than the asus.

not the exact same model, but main difference was no 2nd LAN port.

Personally I would have gone for a Barton Core at this point, but still a nice system. Have fun

if you already checked AA/AF settings, it might be your card

that score is right on the money with his current setup, the 9600Pro can hardly touch 10K marks, but from what i understand, the 9600np or pro both overclock like devils. kinda makes it worth buying one after that.

I believe the ATI brand of the 9600's are the most powerful overclockers, OC'ing their output by 50some%!

nice ride!
