Using a controller card to fix broken onboard IDE?

Hi all,

Having some probs with my back-up puter (Biostar M7VKD socket A VIA KT133A , 512 pc133). I think it's the IDE controller(ultra DMA 100), and would like to try this as a last resort before scrapping the board altogether.

Anyone have any ideas as to where the cheapest suitable controller cards can be found, as I don't want to spend 1/2 the price of replacing the board TRYING to fix this problem.

Thanks,

-LC

I realize that lotsa ppl do not like or use eBay...and thats fine, but I buy a lot of smaller items there..including Promise controller cards. I generally buy and use the Ultra 66 (Ultra 100s when cheap enough) I can't tell the difference in a 66 and a 100..even benchmarking a system doesn't show much difference.

I have bought several at around $10 bucks each + shipping

I also had to revert to a controller card on a socket 7 board a few years back when the primary IDE controllers died...the system even ran better with the hard drive running on the controller card.
