XP crashed and now I can't get it boot up, corrupt VXD file?
I logged on this morning to find that some VXD drivers failed to load. It gave me the error message in DOS mode and only a flashing cursor appeared. I'm running WindowsXP.
So, I tried rebooting my machine hoping this would reset and resolve the problem, that did not work.
My machine booted up, the BIOS seems to be finding all the devices. But I can't seem to access my floppy, CD drive, hard drive. I don't get a DOS prompt, only a flashing cursor appears. I've also tried starting it up in Safe Mode but it does not seem to work either, F8 does not seem to work.
I've tried inserting a boot disk but that does not seem to work. Is there a way to reset my hardware? I was told to isolate the problem by unplugin the majority of the other devices except the C drive. And start it up a device at a time. Then slowly plug things back in and trouble shoot that way, I still need to try this I'm still at work.
I believe the VXD file became corrupt and preventing me from booting my system. Does anyone have any other suggestions, perhaps there might be another cause?
