what is the brand for that modem?...i had used smartlink products with XP and alot of the time XP wont recognize it. There are other brands as well that do the same...that may be your problem....

if you have access to the internet still, try looking up your modem and finding drivers for xp

was it prebuilt or homebuilt? if it was prebuilt then there should be a drivers cd somewhere.
