Unable to delete file

I'm not crazy...others have had this problem...but I need more help.

"When I try to delete the below avi file it I get a message that says it is being used by another person or program, but as far as I can tell no other program is running and I am the only one on the computer.

What is really bad about the problem is that once I try to del the file, explorer goes nuts and runs the cpu at 75% to 100% and the only way out is to reboot."

This 'buggy' .avi file cannot be dumped, moved, renamed etc. The file is on an external drive and with my limited PC experience my attempts at DOS commands have yielded no results. I had a tech guy who got one off earlier with Commander 2003 but there must be a self-help and less expensive route.

Former 12 year Mac user who wonders why he has a PC.

What operating system do you have?

Have you tried deleting it in safe mode?

Can you delete other things off of the drive in question?

Could it possibly be the attributes on the file are set to "read only" (right click it..click 'properties')

Is it a porno avi file? If so you've got trouble as it may have a worm or spyware program attached to it. If it is, its too late. It's already infected your computer. You might try a utility designed to detect and rid your HD of spyware programs, but it may also have infected the registry which means only a clean re-install will truly get rid of it.

Send a message via Yahoo to Brainchild
you can't delete just the file, you'll have to delete the folder it's in.And you may have to move that folder to the C:/ directory before you can delete it.

This is a Kazza file correct?

(hoping that my assumption is correct)
