One of my computers is sort of messed up. I can't reinstall WinXP and I can't format drive C: does anyone know why? It says drive C is not based on an FAT(32) system or something. It's NTFS, and that I should partitioned drive C. But I don't know how to partion a harddrive. Can someone please explain how to go about doing this or what else I should try?
Sounds like maybe you are trying to use a w98 or similar bootdisk.
If you are using a w98 boot disk you can try to delete the "non-dos" partition. And then you boot with the XP disk and try to install.
But you should be able to do it from the XP disk without a w98 or other boot floppy.
Have you tried booting from the Xp Disk. You would just boot and choose install (or setup or whatever it is, lol) and then it will check to see what partitions you have on the hard drive....and you probably only have one partition so you will choose it.
It then will probably give you a warning saying that there is already an operating system on that partition blah blah....but you choose it anyway...then you choose to FORMAT that partition.
I use "quick" format but Im not sure it will make much difference....maybe choose thorugh or whatever if you think you had a virus before etc.

I use the services guide http://www.blackviper.com/WinXP/servicecfg.htm on pretty much all of my xp builds and reduilds. Although I recently realized I was accidently wiping out the firewall by disabling one of the needed services.
