Why not make a .porn for all porn

Is there any reason that there can not be a .porn or similar to remove porn and adult material from the .com/.net to a .porn or something that you could not mistakenly type in and get to. It would make it much easier to just block any .porn url to keep kids out of it. There would be no saying by someone I accedently got on this site. It would clean up alot of junk from the regular internet and there could be special search engines for just that garbage like www.yahoo.porn or something like that. Now I know there would be problems between what some people would consider adult or porn others would not, but I am sure there is plenty of junk that there would be no doubt about.

What do you think? Is this possible? Is it likely to ever happen? Is it a good/bad idea?

I don't think it's a bad idea I just don't think it's likely to happen because most other porn sites I've come across where from when I mistyped an popular URL. I can't help but wonder if there's some underground service that actually monitors when a popular URL expires so some porn site can pick it up. As an example just from my backyard we have a park here that tries to recreate the colonial life. It was largely underwritten by the state so when the budget cuts came along one of the things they unfortunately had to cut was the subscriptioin to the URL they owned. Within one week that URL was owned by a porn site and that stirred up quite an outrage around here. So while it would be nice to make all adult sites follow that convention I doubt it would work without some laws and rigorous enforcement to make it work.

Nice idea though.

I think there should be such a thing. Also there should be such a thing for spam....that way a person could CHOOSE whether he wants the porn and/or the spam. That way no one's "freedom of speech" would be prohibited...yet again neither would our freedom to not be pestered.

Imagine walking into a library and being forced to read 7 silly viagra, male enhancement, "get outta debt quick" and other ads every time you turned the page on the book you are reading.

There needs to be a solution because the way things are right now is sort of silly.

i think just last week, a man was arrested for owning domain names that were similar to real sites...like if kids would type www. disniy.com or whatever, u get the point, it was directed to a porn site, and he had like tons of these things. Every hit, he got 25 cents, he was a millionaire, i think like 1.4 million or something from doing all that stuff. he said he did it to sites that kids access most since they are most likley to misspell......yeah, i would support .porn

I know that would be a big problem with everybody complaining about what is and what is not porn. There are a lot of junk that they could not argue about though. I agree with Omardeth to the more I think about it, it would have to be like .adult because people would complain about being labeled as porn. I also think JP brought up an interesting point about the library as if the internet was more like the library it would be a little better. I have yet to walk in the library and see a hustler magazine or ads for male enhancements anywhere so anything they would consider to offensive for the library because of adult sexual content could be moved to .adult

Then if people want it, go to .adult and get it. It would make it so much easier to block kids from getting to these sites even by accident and block junk from those sites including e-mail from reaching you. I do remember reading something about the guy that just got arrested for the misleading names tricking kids into going to sites with misspelled names. They should take everything he owns, every penny including his house, cars or whatever and sell them and use the money to do good on the internet on at the very least use the money to keep ownership of the misspelled sites to keep others from capitalizing on the same lame brain idea.

I don't remember seeing a .xxx for any domains yet, maybe it is in the works.

Probably the biggest problem would come from overseas and blocking or forcing other countries to follow suite. Does anybody know who controls all the domain name registries? Is it internic and are they based in the US?
