19 " Monitor Recomendations?
I presently have a Mag Innovision 986FS. I usually run at 1280x1024, but it has gotten fuzzy when running that high. If I switch it down to 1024x768 it's sharp. That's not good enough for me.
I am looking for a new monitor that will run at 1600x1200 at at least 72 HZ refresh rate (the 986FS does not run that fast).
I got to have sharp text for my aging eyes
Any suggestions? I'm likely to buy from a local store so I can see it in action. I'm wanting to stay under $500.
I use it mostly for surfing, some games, and my digital camera pictures (1600x1200).

I would stay with a CRT flat screen. digital monitors usually will not "split" pixels, which can make text appear fuzzy.
I have had good luck with both NEC and Viewsonic monitors.

Hitachi CM721FB 19" http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProduc...ion=%20&page=2
I like the looks of this one, good reviews on New Egg. I'm also looking at
the NEC FE990 for $245. Specs looked good, but only one review and it was bad (monitor went fuzzy after 2 days).
The Nec is cheaper, but only one review sounds bad.
Best Buy (local) Viewsonic A90F+ looks good also $229
Staples has a Philips 109B20 for $289. Specs also look good and it is smaller (I think).
I'll go look at the ones in the stores. Staples is close. Staples also has some NEC monitors.
Thanks for any input!

Drat... Staples only as LCD monitors, no CRT's. I wanted to look at one.
I'm leaning towards the Hitachi CM721. I am not familar with that brand, but the reviews on New Egg raved about it. I will have to do a search on it and see if I can find some professional reviews, it's that or a NEC.
Our sales tax is 9.25% (no income tax yet) so sometimes it cheaper to buy online.

Just ordered the Hitachi CM721F. Almost went with the Viewsonic, but did not like the reviews on New Egg. About half of the reviews were bad, on the Hitachi almost every one was glowing.
All to often the problem is caused by not getting the refresh rate set right, but I like to go with something not so picky.
I picked the Hitachi because of price, free shipping, recommended resolution matchs the mode I would use it in, and better dot pitch specs.
The Viewsonic has higher resolutions and I know it has "Perfect Flat", I am not sure that the Hitachi is perfect flat

Fingers crossed!

The Hitachi arrived yesterday in good condition. I am very happy with it. Text is very sharp, even at 1600x1200. I had just a little tweaking to do to center and expand the picture, and correct a little tilt.
Most reviews mention turning down the brightness to about 37%, I found that the default was 30% (I guess Hitachi updated the software), I turned it up to about 40%. This was in a darkened room, turning it up util blacks started to turn gray, then back down a little.
Also, one of my concerns was was it "Perfect Flat". Well, it is. Hitachi's specifications was not clear.
Well, I'm pleased, even felt like entering reciepts into Quicken this morning. Now, if I could buy one for work also.
