Systems Boots and then just shuts down

Ok, I just messed arround with my heatsink and adjusted it and now when I boot up it goes for about 30 seconds, gets how it should normally and then it beebs 4 times and then turns off. I didnt do anything else to it besides adjust the heatsink and put new thermal paste on it and now this happens. Thanks.

heres what id do:

shutdown system and disconnect power

remove heatsink and fan, and clean off all pastes

re apply paste and reseat heatsink carefully...

**remember AMD tell you heatsinks are to rest on rubber footings not the chip itself!!**

then reconnect and reboot...

if that doesnt work lemme know...i have other solutions..but this is the most common one...lots of people forget to reseat the heatsink properly...happens to the bet of us...also

MAKE SURE YOUR CPU FAN IS WORKING BEFORE REMOVING!!!

Did it like 15 times readjusting it and cleaning it, got it to get going once but it was running at 80c! and when i saw that I turned it off right away and went back to work. Now it just makes long beeps and nothing else happens. The CPU is most likely burned to hell.

Bummer =(
Sounds like it might have fried, however check your motherboard manual to confirm what the beepcode means. Perhaps you didnt reconnet the heatsink sensor correctly and its just a failsafe shutting it off ?? (wishful thinking).

I have a thermaltake 11 on there and everything but I guess it was just a bad cpu because it was running hot before with the heatsink fan going all out and the cpu being underclocked too. So now I'm jsut wondering if this will happen to say a Athon 2500+ or is that too hard to tell??

A Volcano 11 is more than sufficient for an AMD 2500+, even with alot of overclocking. Your problem had to either be defective hardware or improper installation of the HS and thermal paste.
