only front speakers when I play a game?

This is driving me NUTZ!
My Abit NF7-S v2.0 MB plays mp3's great through my creative inspire 4.1 speakers. When I load up any game or the TV I only get the front speakers??! and it stays that way until I reset it.

I have this problem with the Soundstorm and also with an Audigy2 after disabling the Soundstorm.

I can go back into the speaker setup and change it back to 4 speakers and it will revert back to 2 speakers everytime I play a game or TV.

Is this a board problem?...... Windows XP problem?......Speaker problem? has anyone else ever experienced this?
Is there a solution?

go into the game settings and some games have the ability to set how many speakers your set up has.

this particular game (Star Trek Bridge Commander) only has EAX or Non EAX in sound selection....no speaker settings. But it also does the same with ATI TV. Never had this problem until I started using this NF7-S borad. Maybe it's just a crappy board. I just can't think of anything else to check :-(
