Rundll32 seems to be running in the background, what is it?.

It just means some program(s) need rundll32.exe to run -- usually, but not always, a startup program. For instance, running Tweakui from startup. Which particular one or more is using it is hard to tell w/o some diagnostic program.

Oh, I remember Rundll32 back when I used to use Windows 98. Rundll32 error this and that! That's one of the many things I couldn't stand about Win98!

rundll32 does exactly what it sounds like... it is a program used to run dll code for certain windows functions (like mail, and other native stuff that runs in that manner)...
