Couple Klipsch Questions
Hey all, i've been using my Klipsch 4.1's for about a month now... Very impressed by the sound quality!!!
Anyhoo.. I've got a couple questions...
1. I've currently got the sub sitting in the corner under my desk, with the port facing outwards (e.g. 45% of the right angle under my desk)... Is this the best way to have the sub sitting? Or would i get better bass quality & volume by having it some other way?
2. Lately i've noticed the front left speaker it cutting in & out... After doing alittle bit of playing around, i think it is just the speaker wire for that satellite... Should i just make up a new wire for that satellite & leave the rest on stock wires, or do a full speaker wire upgrade while i'm at it?
Thanks
JayMan

I'll help you wait for an answer. That is also my set up exactly, 4.1's and placement of the sub. My sub is on laminate flooring.
Is that a TechIMO case badge? Nice!

Hehe thanks... i'm sure there will be a few more experienced Klipsch using techimoers come along to give us some handy hints...
Yep, sure is a TechIMO case badge, been on there for quite a while now... (since they were 1st made available & we done the 1st "Aussie Order")...
I'm fairly sure that setup is right for the sub... But yeh would like for it to be confirmed...

The crackling is definitely the phono plug (damn you yet again Klipsch). Clean it with some rubbing alcohol.
I personally have my suyb sitting in the corner of my room. I notice much more bass extension and also A LOT more loudness than when it was under my desk. Technically the port should face the corner for the most increase in db, but I have mine facing out for neatness. This technique, called "corner-loading" can result in a 3-6 db increase in your sub volume. I almost died when my sub was under my deak when I first got it. The bass simply didn't reach me. Corner-loading worked miracles for me.

i have found that facing the blowhole outwards and placing the sub against a large diaphragm object, such as the side of your desk, allows your sub to thunder through and object giving it some better "ambient" bass.
However the most powerful method i ever used was putting my sub inside of a desk drawer and closing the drawer. it was about 50% louder and thundered so hard that my mouse would vibrate... a little too much overkill there.
sayyy, anyone here own/heard a pair of klipsch horns?
mine downstairs just absolutely slaughter |

mine downstairs just absolutely slaughter | How the heck can it be louder in a drawer?!?! Weird. BTW, it's not a blowhole, it's a port! Also, enjoy your Klipschhorns, you lucky man!

MD, altho it might be alittle hard to tell in that pic, my desk is in the corner of my room... So the only way i can have the sub in the corner is by having it under the desk... Can't get any closer to the corner than what it is...
So its actually louder if ya have the port facing into the corner?
And unfortunatly its not just the plug, have already given it a good clean, made no difference at all... Which is what makes me think its the actual wire....

On any sub, the closer you get it to a three-surface corner (two walls and a floor, say), the more bass reinforcement, overall, you're going to get. BUT, once that distance is inside a foot, things get unpredictable. That's because the wavelengths of low frequencies are very long, upwards of 32 feet at the lowest frequencies
So, the amount and quality of "perceived bass" at your listening position can be dictated by these very long wavelengths either reinforcing or cancelling each other at various points in the room.
Sometimes a sub pulled two feet away from the corner will give you tighter, cleaner bass that one with the sub jammed up tight against the surfaces. Same with the port facing in and out. You just have to experiment.
In my home theater system, I dinked around with the sub to where it sounded right in my chair. But if I stand up, or lean forward two feet, the extreme low end disappears almost completely.
Moral of the story: move it around, play with it, etc. until it sounds right in your listening position. Certain general rules apply, but the interaction between a sub and a given room is unpredictable.
