whats wrong with celerons??

im running a P4 2.6 with 800fsb and hyperthreading and im very pleased. But i got some people that want me to make some systems on a budget and ive seen these 2.4 celerons arround and i was wondering what was so bad about them. The main reason i like using intel on client builds is the heat issue. AMDs get toasty. just wondering what was the big deal can they not handle games and such?

Don't want to turn this into a debate, but AMD is all I use in builds for folks. Thething about celerons is that the cache isn't as large and there obviously won't be hyper-threading. I'm sure they'd be fine for the average user.

yea i would use AMD exclusively too except im dealing with people who dont keep maitinance up on there systems proper dusting and such and i dont want to risk something over heating and then them blaiming me. most of the time these people are using these systems for internet and maybe some gaming. and the occasional DVD but all in all nothing major.

The Celeron is fine for the average user, I personally would not buy one.

AMD is a great solution for the budjet non wild type, better then a Celery IMO.

nothing wrong with the celeron , never has been . it is just most forum people want the high end . but for a budget pc they work great . even for gaming , its more the video card than the cpu .

i been using celerons since the first ones . i JUST upgraded a pc that i built for a friend about 5 years ago . he ran everquest on it till i built him a new pc . it was a celeron 266 overclocked to 400 . it has been running at 400 since i built it . it pissed me off it was the most stable pc i have ever built lol . i also still have a 300a celeron at 450 running in my house .

Price divided by performance ratio favors AMD.

When the guy with the celly wants to move up to a real P4 what does he have to spend?

When the guy with the Duron wants to move to a real Athlon what does HE spend?

what you say is true . but does that make the celeron bad ? i think not . maybe not the best value but they will work fine for many many people .

I wouldn't mind having a celeron in a laptop myself (since I don't expect a lot from a laptop) but I would go with the AMD for the desktop PC - I just expect a desktop to do everything well.

Wasnt/isnt the problem with the Celeron's is that they do tend to run hot and that there are some compatability issues with certain programs? I had heard something like that a while back.
Please correct me if I am wrong.
