hmmm maybe AIM for linux?

http://aim.com/get_aim/linux/latest_linux.adp?aolperm=

right from aol themselves

although gaim (comes with most linux products) can talk to other IM's as well I believe.

depends on which browser you're using.

depends on which user you're logged in as.

check your HOME drive
(easiest method is to type 'cd ~' from command prompt if you're not sure)

Worst case scenario download it again and see where it puts it.
Just like windows you should pay attention to that

1) Which one did you install, RPM, .tar.gz, .deb?
2) You really should use gaim instead. It is a much more developed client, and much nicer looking.

To run that it looks as if you need to open a terminal and type /usr/bin/aim or just aim should wok as well.

I had problems tryign to get GAIM running... even with the RPM my install failed. It said it had to install abunch of other things to satify dependies, then it came to an error and canceled the installation (argh, I'm a 100% newb to linux) and not even being able to install something is discouraging
