pictures,music,and SVCD
How can I create a slideshow that has different music for each set of pictures, and will play in a DVD player?
Like I have a bunch of pics of my dads family, and would like to play music with that part of the presentation, then when it goes into moms family I want the music to change, ect.
What will I need to pull this off?

correct me if i am wrong someone....but i think you can export a powerpoint project into a slide show...i am unsure whether or not you can play that in a dvdplayer or not....
may not be the most simplest way, but you could create a "movie" with say windows movie maker or a program like it, and manually add all the frames.

Well you could setup multiple movies, and have each movie be a "chapter" on the DVD player. Windows Movie Maker would prolly work for something as simple as a slideshow kind of movie. I'm sure theres got to be some sort of free movie editing software out there for linux, but I have no idea for sure (they have the gimp for photoshop... so maybe theres a Premiere equivilent).

It's a free trial, only $30 to buy. Output to VCD/SVCD/XSVCD/DVD/MPEG/MPEG2/EXE http://www.ulead.com/dps/trial.htm
free tial here too, limited to 10 stills for the trial tho, $45 to buy. www.vcdeasy.org also has this capability. It used to be free and I donated, but now I see it's around $20. I'm not sure how easy it is to add music on this one.
I've never done the music part, so good luck!

Nero can do the slides... never tried music... Ill see if I can find my HP software disk that does EXACTLY what you want and burns to VCD/SVCD if u are still looking... It may have been lost in the move to the US though Will check when I get home.

Not to totally ruin your post here but I've found that most stand-alone DVD players don't play SVCD's so if you're looking for a way to widely distribute these disks that might present a real problem.

ive had mixed results with SVCDs... if its under a year ive had good luck but thats no promise. Ive had the best luck with vcds. But the best is actually burning a DVD. But I wanna get u what you want. VCDs can be played on any computer though so thats a good thing

You can use VCDEasy to generate MPEG stills from your pictures, then set each as a chapter. You can set the delay for each one before it goes on to the next. I'm not certain about adding music, but it shouldn't be too difficult. (Just find a way to play an MP2 audio stream while the chapters progress.)
Very cool idea. If I ever find somebody with a slide scanner (stupid instructor wanted us to use slide film), I think I'll try something similar.
