USB2 Pinouts for Mitac 5114vu / Compaq PWA Camaro MB

Gents,

The good news that I have the Mitac 5114vu operational. Never one to leave well enough alone, I have discovered a nine-pin arrangement on the Motherboard which states 'USB2" on the silkscreening. The configuration is that of 2 parallel, five-pin rows, with Pin one the upper left hand side. On the far side, opposite end of the array, where pin 10 ought to be, is a space. This array merely sports nine pins, thus:

|
1 2
3 4
5 6
7 8
9 x - no pin on motherboard

USB2

This motherboard came out of a Compaq Presario 7360, yet upon downloading the Mitac 5114vu manual at
www.motherboards.org/files/manuals/78/5114VU.pdf I can see differences. For instance, there are no FAN2 pins - just nubs.

The motherboard comes with 2 USB ports out of the backplane.

For USB port add-on cards, I have one each of twin arrays that would be mounted in the space for an expansion slot. Two cables run from the backside of these ports and terminate in one of two different ways.

The first USB add-on port has two separate 5-pin connectors in the stardard USB fashion.

The second USB add-on port has two cables running out to a 10-hole female connector, but its color scheme is this:

1- red 2 - black
3 - white 4 - black
5 - green 6 - green
7 - black 8 - white
9 - black 10 - red

I have not had luck securing an answer from either Compaq or Mitac.

Any suggestions as to which USB to use would be appreciated. Best

K.J.

All right I'll get you started on this. The problem is: is that there seems to be not much in the way of a standard pin out from the mainboard to the ports. Many boards switch around where the pins are. The best thing to is get the pin out from the manufacturer of the board. You'll have to look around.

As far colors go the Red is +5v; the Black is ground; the Green and White are the data carriers. Usually the the end pins are +5v sometimes on the same end of the set of pins on the board sometimes on opposite ends. You can check this with volt meter - carefully. Don't short any pins with the leads. Usually the next two pins after the +5v are data pins - but not always. Sometimes there is a ground pin there. That is why you need the pin out. Once you have determined which pins are which, you have to rewire your female connectors from the ports to suit the configuration of your board. You lift the little flap, withdraw the wire, and reinsert it in the correct hole.

Thanks. I've been searching the Net for general info on USB main board connector pinouts and I have established just that.
http://www.amptron.com/html/extendedusbmodule.html
http://www.indiacam.net/pinout/usbfaq.html
http://www.bninc.com/cables/cabpin.htm

I also have been warned against plugging in any USB device if the pinouts are not exactly right, upon pain of frying out that device if the connectors are not proper.

While many board manufacturers have pdf's of their board pinouts online, the Compaq Camaro / Mitac 5114vu apparently do not.

It has been quite frustrating.

kopfjaeger....thankyou. I have been searching everywhere for the manual of the mitac 5114vu (camaro) and my search ended at your doorstep. I am a new member now. If you could send me a url to upload the drivers for this mainboard, please do. I have the oem drivers disk for this board and would gladly share them with all who need them. (pwa-pwa-camaro-1.5c assembly number 411701500101-R. Thanks again. 3hawkfeathers

Reply to 3 feathers:

The drivers are actually pretty easy to find. Having the original CD would have been excellent. I got the board as a system that had stalled for someone else. I flashed the bios and remounted it in a well-ventilated MSI case with a 300W PSU and 180MB SDRAM (it's very picky as far was what modules it will accept), found the drivers and the thing has been a stalwart and stable, if not obsolescent, board ever since.

Best,

KJ
