Leadtek k7ncr18g-Pro semi major problems...
Alright, this board at first would not show anything on the monitor while using the onboard video. I had to then use a agp card get into the bios and change some settings in order for the onboard to function properly.
After that I installed windows and had the HD die on it. After buying a new hd locally the windows install went smoothly. After getting to the desktop I attempted to Install the drivers from the leadtek disk. Neither the CDROM nor the CDRW would read the disk kept giving me errors. I then had to put in another CDROM and it loaded the disk. I proceeded to install the graphics drivers and the chipset drivers. After a reboot after each install I opened the CD back up to see if there was anything else for me to install. It immediately restarted the computer. I then tried another cd from Logitech for the keyboard. It opened ok and got a little over halfway and it gave a error it couldn’t read something from the disk. It then completed the install and I decided I had better remove the program from Add/remove and try it again. As soon as i opened the control panel it restarted the computer again.
I felt the chip labeled MCP-T and it was Extremely hot. I thought maybe heat was causing the problems. I then installed a passive chipset cooler on it and propped a 80mm fan right over it. It made a noticeable difference I could go into control panel and what not without to many artifacts on the screen. I decided to test it a little and tried to run the aquarium screensaver. It couldn’t even preview the thing without restarting!
After reading around on other sites I decided to flash the bios. I got the 59370812.BIN bios from leadtek's site. I opened winflash and attempted to flash the bios it kept giving me "could not open file" and "file size to large" I re-downloaded the bios file on another computer and transferred it over. It took the bios and started to install. It completed and said it was successful all it needed to do now is restart for it to take affect. (at this time I’m only using the onboard video) It restarts and the screen is blank I though well it prob reset the bios so that’s why I cant see anything. I gave it a good hour just incase it was installing something in the background I couldn’t see, then turned off the computer and put the AGP card back in again. I was greeted with Bios ROM bad checksum error (at the top it said bios bootblock). It started searching for a floppy to boot from. I then got back on the working computer and made a msdos startup disk I then opened notepad and typed in: awdflash 59370812
That's all I put in it, then named it to autoexec.bat and dumped it into the msdos startup disk. It then asked me if I wanted to overwrite the autoexec.bat and I said yes. I restarted the "screwed" computer with the floppy in it. It started searching the floppy then said:
A:\>awdflash 59370812
Bad command or file name
A:\>_
What do I do? I'm so screwed and I know it. So far the mobo is dead and the hd is dead what a lovely build.
Alright I remade the floppy this time in the autoexec.bat i put in the file extentions names. It worked and brought up a screen. After a little while it said it wasnt a award bios and brought the A: prompt up again.
