Which video card for an Apple G5?

Hi folks, I'd appreciate your advice.
I ordered an Apple Mac dual 2gig G5, it comes with the ATI Radeon 9600 Pro video card, Apple has a $300 upgrade for the ATI Radeon 9800 Pro card.

Now I'm not a gamer and don't forsee becoming one.
Is there any reason other than for gaming to get the 9800 Pro over the 9600 Pro card?

Would I see any performance improvements in programs other than gaming?

Thanks in advance for your help.

Welcome to TechIMO yanks!!!!

What are you going to be using the G5 for?

If are going to be doing some heavy 3D design and drafting, then i would guess you would see an imporvement with the 9800. But if are just going to be doing Graphics design with Adobe stuff or similar software, then the 9600 should be plenty.

Good luck and let us know how you like the G5.

Thanks for the reply blubomber, mostly I will be using it for Photoshop work and perhaps some web design.

I was thinking perhaps it would be better to put the extra funds into extra ram but wasn't sure.

I'd put the extra into RAM if you have the choice. The 9600 will do just fine for what you're doing, and, since Photoshop's undo buffer is in RAM, the more, the merrier.

Agree with tomterrific. Put that money into ram. 300 bucks to upgrade the vid card like that is way overpriced.
