Is my UPS not funcioning properly?

Hello. I just got a Energizer ER-HM450 off of a Staples deal as my first UPS. I have the filesaving program installed, and it's fully charged. When I try to do a "test" of it, it immediately loses power and reboots. If I try to do it for, say, a minute, it will lose power, boot for 30 seconds, then lose power again and reboot, thinking it did it successfully. Is this a malfunction in the program or UPS? Shouldn't I get a seamless transition to UPS power until I need to shut down a few minutes later? Thanks for the help.

What OS is on your machine? Have you tried disabling the filesave feature to see what happens?
Does the UPS indicate it goes into battery mode?

Windows XP.

I just hear some battery beeping, but in no specific pattern. I don't know what else I can say--I get no displays on the screen, it just crashes. And every FAQ/troubleshoot distributed by Energizer says "wait 6 hours and try again." Talk about avoiding the question!

well I'd suggest giving it a full day to charge (though it should come with a factory charge). Then it should make a seemless transition. Also uninstall the UPS software that came with it and run without any software.

I just bought one and it not only does a seemless transition but it has a voice say that it is switching to battery backups which just sounds cool!

It's been 4 days since I installed it. : / I also can't test it without the software.

I think they'll still do an exchange if yours is broken, as long as you aren't trying to return it and get your money back.

How are you doing the "test"? The way I'd do it is to just unplug the UPS from the wall/power strip, like would happen in real life.

I too just got one of these UPS. I was gonna post my own thread but found this one. When I first got it, it worked great. I plugged it right in installed the updated software from the website and it worked great, communicated flawlessly. I have receently reformatted my hard-drive with a fresh install of Win XP Pro(which I had before), and it doesn't want to communicate through the software. It takes forever to find it and when it does it doesn't tell me much about it. Anybody know what is going on here, or a way to fix this? Thanks.
