Yes, most of them come with OpenOffice which is kind of like Microsoft Office in a sort of way. You can chek out this site to download the ISO's and burn them on a CD and then install them:

I would suggest you to take a look at Mandrake or RedHat since they are the most appropriate for Linux newbies which I think you are right? I would take the chance and try it out at least if I was you, and you dont need to waste money, just time. But at least you dont waste it trying to fix your Windows or downloading patches right?
