Outdoors Frustrating Very Frustrating

It's my own fault.I reformatted and installed Win XP yesterday and downloaded all the patches again."Thank GOD for broadband."I get it just right and there I go with the tweaking. Why in the hell I can't leave well enough along?I just cannot help myself.Needless to say.I messed up again and am looking to do another reinstall tommorrow.Even system restore was messed up.You know I have come to one conclusion!Just install Windows and nothing else.No pretty desktops,no fancy Icons,no program other than a few other utilities such as Diskeeper and the like.I must be nuts to put myself through this same process over and over and over again. Can someone here invent a remote control collar that you can shock me with if I dare to do this again?I can't even use Ispell with Explorer right now because it's so messed up.So forgive the errors if any.

Why not try Linux and leave the Windows world for a short period of time? I mean its free and it will maybe help you to calm down and start over again after being a bit with Linux. Just a suggestion

What kind of tweaking did you do to mess things up anyhow?

Yes, most of them come with OpenOffice which is kind of like Microsoft Office in a sort of way. You can chek out this site to download the ISO's and burn them on a CD and then install them: www.linuxiso.org
I would suggest you to take a look at Mandrake or RedHat since they are the most appropriate for Linux newbies which I think you are right? I would take the chance and try it out at least if I was you, and you dont need to waste money, just time. But at least you dont waste it trying to fix your Windows or downloading patches right?
Hope this helps

dan

P.S. check out this site for more details about the Office program: www.openoffice.org its the program that most Linux distros come with (make sure to download all the CD's if you want the Office Suite since it can possibly come in the last CD's) Good Luck!

I wish I knew.I installed a couple of programs and rebooted. It took forever to reboot after words. It had to have been one of them. But,neither would have had any real impact. One was Ispell and the other was Sun Java.I uninstalled both but it had no effect.I also disabled the RPC in the services.I thought maybe that was doing it.I can't get back to that screen though to change it.Oh well,I tired and have to get up a three for work so I'll mess with it tommorrow when I get home.In the mean time work on that collar.I'm serious. Thanks Dan I'll ck it out tommorrow.

Why did you install Sun Java machine when you have the choice of the Microsoft's Java machine? Sun's is very bad and problematic IMO, but try Linux out, I think that you wont regret it and it would be an experience and maybe youll learn something new Im sounding like a Linux fanatic or something, trying to brainwash people to use Linux!

dan

Also I am glad I could help
